Sound Devices has released the 888 Portable Production Mixer-Recorder. Small enough to fit in a bag and powerful enough for full productions, the 888 can handle 16 channels, 20 tracks, and 10 buses.
When Sound Devices released the 833 Portable Compact Mixer-Recorder, it was an interesting development for the company and customers alike: exciting technology from Sound Devices’ flagship Scorpio was now available in a smaller, more wallet-friendly unit.

The 888 is outfitted with eight 8-series ultra-low-noise microphone preamplifiers—the same ones found in the Scorpio. The processing architecture and multiple FPGAs come from the Scorpio, as well, ensuring the 888 is fully routable: any input can be routed to any bus, track, or output. 32-Bit A/D converters, timecode generation, and other Scorpio goodies can also be found.
