Insta360 Announces the Modular ONE R Action Cam and 360 System

Of the many action cameras on the market, only a handful stand out at the very top. Today, Insta360 has announced a unique new action cam that will surely be on that list: the ONE R Modular Action Cam system. It consists of a Core module that has a touchscreen display and controls, as well as other modules that can be used interchangeably with the Core.
The Core module, plus a second module of your choice, install side-by-side in a stylish Battery Base. The Base has electronic contacts that link the modules together to work as one unit. What are these other modules? This is where things get even more interesting: There's a 1" Wide-Angle Mod that captures 5.3K video, a 4K Wide-Angle Mod, and a Dual Lens 360 Mod. In one system, you get two types of action cams and a 360-degree spherical VR camera, all in an ultra-compact form. Instead of having three cameras for different applications, you can just swap in the module you need.

The system will be available in different configurations, and the individual modules will be available separately as well. The ONE R Twin Edition will include the Battery Base, Core module, 4K Mod, and 360 Mod. Additionally,  you can get the 1" Mod—which has a large 1" sensor that delivers higher, 5.3K resolution. The Twin Edition also comes with a mounting frame that has a standard 3-prong action cam mount. The entire setup installs as one into the frame. All the units are waterproof down to 16' without requiring a waterproof housing, while dive cases are also optionally available.
