Many analog synthesizers nail that one specific sound, but the Sequential Pro 3 Multi-Filter Mono Synth, freshly unveiled at NAMM 2020, goes for the opposite tack: it offers a highly versatile sound for the discerning synth-based musician, producer, or sound designer. It’s also eminently tweakable, and this is thanks to its filters, oscillators, and routing options.
Filters help imbue your sound with character, and this synth offers three classic analog filters: Prophet-6, OB-6, and ladder. Two VCO oscillators are on hand, and that’s all well and good—but expanding the sonic possibilities of conventional VCO oscillators is a wavetable that bolsters the tonal versatility of this instrument.

A 16-track sequencer, combined with four CV I/O and a 32-slot matrix, allows for complicated 16-step sequences of sound. For not only can you program conventional musical notes—you can program CV and gate operations in the sequence, controlling anything from external gear to internal effects as part of the loop.

Speaking of effects, this synth is chock-full of them, with digital offerings, as well as tunable feedback and analog distortion. The analog distortion can help bolster your sound with overdrive and saturation, while the sound-mangling tunable feedback delivers anything from a subtle beefiness to Karplus-Strong synthesis-style sounds.
