CES 2022: During its “Gameverse” virtual event, MSI revealed a new lineup of gaming and content creator laptops featuring the latest 12th Intel® Core™ H series processors. The list of new devices is long, but notable additions include updated Stealth, Raider, and Crosshair models, as well as three new Creator Z laptops.
According to MSI, the new gaming-focused laptops will deliver a 30 to 45% increase in CPU performance over previous models. Along with the performance boost, both the Stealth and Raider series will offer configurations that include a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU, which is the first time the 80 Ti class of GPUs has ever been offered in a laptop.
Now, if you’re concerned that all this extra power will eventually turn these laptops into hotplates, don’t be. According to MSI, its new “Phase Change Liquid Metal Pad” thermal solution is safe, reliable, and should increase CPU performance by up to 10%.
For content creators, the updated Creator Z series also boasts an increase in CPU performance—up to 45% over its predecessors. The leap in performance is owed in part to MSI’s new Vapor Chamber Cooler, which generates significantly more cooling area and airflow, resulting in dramatically lower surface temperature. The new Creator Z roster features three different models, including the all-new Creator Z17, which is billed as the “world’s first 17-inch laptop to support pen touch.”
During the virtual event, MSI also put a lot of focus on the upcoming “era of the metaverse.” To meet the demands of this brave new meta-world, MSI pledged that all newly announced laptops will come equipped with an Intel® Core™ i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card or better. The new laptops will also brandish a “Meta-ready” logo, letting users know they deliver “Metaverse-compatible” performance.
“Metaverse-compatible” isn’t an official spec, so take that with a grain of salt, but if MSI’s minimum requirement for a metaverse-ready machine is an i7 CPU and RTX 3070 graphics, then rest assured any laptop brandishing the “Meta-ready” logo is likely a powerhouse.
