Product Description

Firmware Version 2 has just dropped for the Sony FX3, which aims to bring the camera's workflow and user experience more in line with the rest of the Cinema Line. The major improvements include a new Log shooting mode that features Cine EI options, the ability to import user LUTs, timecode sync, and input using a newly created adapter cable and updated display info settings. These updates push the FX3 closer to a true “cinema” camera.

Log Shooting Mode

Log shooting mode provides users with multiple ways of operating the FX3. Users can choose settings similar to those of the Alpha series or Cinema Line, depending on preference. Cine EI, for example, works like an FX6 with two base ISO values (800/12,800) and shooters will have to select one in the menu. Cine EI Quick functions similarly, but allows full access to both ISO settings.

Updated LUTs

This update offers additional preset LUTs, including Sony’s s709. It also keeps common Picture Profiles such as S-Cinetone. A major change, however, is that users can now import and use their own LUTs to preview images, or use them as part of a custom Picture Profile.

The camera can read LUTs from an SD card and up to 16 can be loaded onto the camera at once.
