Fall is nearly upon us, which means many recent high school grads will soon be heading off to college. To help incoming freshmen thrive during their first year on campus, we’ve put together a list of useful computer tech we think will benefit them in and outside of the classroom.
Essential: Laptop
A good, reliable laptop is arguably the most important piece of computer gear a student can take with them to college. Regardless of their field of study, students need a laptop that offers solid battery life and enough processing power to tackle their coursework. A hi-res panel and solid GPU aren’t bad ideas either, as they’ll allow students to unwind at the end of the day with some AAA gaming or streaming their favorite anime.
One back-to-school laptop we’re particularly fond of is the Lenovo Legion 7i. Designated as a “gaming laptop,” the Legion 7i offers much more than that moniker might imply. Featuring a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU with 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a gorgeous 16” 2560 x 1600 HDR panel (with a high 165 Hz refresh rate), the Legion 7i can indeed run most AAA games at the highest settings, but its breadth of capabilities doesn’t stop there. Thanks to an impressive collection of internals that includes an 11th Gen Intel Core processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB M.2 SSD, the Lenovo 7i has more than enough juice to tackle most workloads and then some.
